4-H County Caroni Funday 2024: A Day of Fun, Sports, and Camaraderie.

Written by Ms. Laura Ram

The Todd’s Road Recreational Grounds came alive on Friday, 24th May 2024, as the 4-H County Caroni Funday unfolded, drawing in members from various 4-H clubs across the Caroni District. From 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the venue echoed with laughter, cheers, and camaraderie as participants engaged in an array of activities and festivities.

The event saw a remarkable turnout with 4-H students from schools within the Caroni District showcasing their enthusiasm and energy. Under the guidance of dedicated Volunteer Leaders, the young participants enthusiastically took part in a variety of activities designed to foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and creativity.

Sports lovers found their thrill in friendly matches: cricket, football, and basketball, where skills were put to the test amidst cheers of encouragement from the sidelines. For those inclined towards rhythmic movements, Zumba sessions offered a lively way to stay active and groove to infectious beats.

Amidst the sporting fervor, participants also indulged in light-hearted games like Musical Hoops, Hula Hoops, and Lucky Dip, adding an element of excitement and surprise to the day’s proceedings. The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the animal raffle, where lucky winners walked away with adorable companions, fostering a sense of responsibility and care for animals among the youth.

No event is complete without delicious treats, and the 4-H County Caroni Funday did not disappoint on this front. Food stalls lined the grounds, offering a tantalizing array of culinary delights ranging from hotdogs and pholorie to snow cones and corn soup, satisfying appetites and providing much-needed fuel for the day’s activities. Refreshing soft drinks, lollies, juices, and suck-a-bags provided the perfect accompaniment to the scrumptious fare, keeping everyone hydrated and energized throughout the festivities.

The success of the 4-H County Caroni Funday would not have been possible without the invaluable support and contribution of various individuals and organizations. A special thank you is extended to guests Dr. Ross-Quamina, Ministry of Education School Supervisor for Caroni District, and Mr. Ryan Rampersad, Chairman of the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation, who lent their support, underscoring the importance of community engagement and youth development initiatives. Ms. Natasha Lee, the 4-H Leaders Council of Trinidad and Tobago President, graced the occasion inspiring participants with her passion for youth empowerment. Special thanks are also extended to the President of 4-H County Caroni and all Executive Members for their tireless efforts in organizing the event, and the Volunteer Leaders who dedicated their time and expertise to make the day a resounding success. Last but not least, heartfelt appreciation goes out to all the 4-H students and their parents whose enthusiastic participation and support breathed life into the 4-H County Caroni Funday.

As the sun set on a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and wholesome fun, memories were made, friendships were forged, and the spirit of community prevailed. The 4-H County Caroni Funday served as a shining example of the positive impact that youth-oriented initiatives can have in fostering a sense of belonging, responsibility, and unity within the community. Until next time, let the spirit of 4-H continue to inspire and uplift us all.
