UNDERSTANDING YOUNG PEOPLE

Introduction

The voluntary leader of a 4-H Club is responsible for organizing and co-ordinating activities that would contribute to the educational experiences of youth and help them to develop to the fullest their unique potential.

It is therefore critical that the voluntary leader understand the characteristics of the age groups with which he works in order to effectively relate to club members as he carries out his role in the capacity of friend, teacher, advisor and administrator.

We provide some information on the characteristics and needs of young people and some general guidelines for dealing with them. It should, however, be remembered that each young person should be considered as an individual and that there would be individual differences depending on various factors, for example, cultural background and the environment.
