Building Connections – 4-HTT and TTHI
4-H Engages at TTHI Expo and Career Fair 2024
The 4-H team from County St. George East participated in the Trinidad and Tobago Hearing Impaired (TTHI) Expo and Career Fair 2024, hosted at the MIC Institute in Macoya, Trinidad on Sunday, November 24th, 2024. Representing 4-HTT were Asha Lewis, Christal Webster, and myself, Elizabeth Theodore. The event provided a unique opportunity to connect with the Deaf and hearing-impaired community, explore innovative resources, and expand our understanding of inclusive practices.
Booth Engagements: Bridging the Gap Through Creativity and Awareness
The Expo’s booths showcased an impressive range of talent and resources designed to foster understanding and collaboration between the hearing and hearing-impaired communities. The displays of books and games aimed at helping individuals learn about the hearing-impaired experience were of particular interest. These resources beautifully combined education with empathy, breaking barriers through interactive learning.
Additionally, we marveled at the creativity on display in the craft booths, where ordinary materials were transformed into extraordinary items. From pillows to jewelry and even clothing, these crafts proved that innovation can turn what many might consider waste into treasure.
Nutrition Workshop: Building Healthy Futures
Our team attended a workshop focused on nutrition and the importance of maintaining a balanced diet. The session provided practical insights into creating healthier eating habits, underscoring 4-H’s commitment to promoting wellness and sustainable living.
A Leap Into Virtual Reality
As we prepare for the County Game Adventure planned for February 2025, our visit to the VR Booth was a highlight of the day. The immersive experience of virtual reality gaming not only thrilled the team but also sparked ideas for incorporating technology into 4-H’s educational and recreational activities.
Collaborative Talks with MIC Personnel
In discussions with MIC representatives, we explored how 4-H principles could extend beyond secondary school education. These talks laid the groundwork for potential partnerships offering hands-on, skill-based learning opportunities tailored to a rapidly changing world.
Promoting Inclusion and Lifelong Learning
The Expo was a resounding success, reinforcing the importance of differentiation and inclusivity in our nation. 4-H fully supports the learning of sign language as a valuable skill, furthering our mission to connect, empower, and educate youth.
Stay tuned as we build connections and strengthen our commitment to creating a more inclusive and innovative future.
