HCC Champions of the Environment 4-H Club: Garden Restoration
On February 11, 2025, the Champions of the Environment 4-H Club at Holy Cross College had the honor of hosting Mrs. Ria Balgobin, County Coordinator for St. George East, MALF (Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries). Her visit was a major boost to our agricultural efforts, as she generously provided a variety of plants, courtesy of the Ministry, and worked alongside our members in planting them.
Additionally, Mrs. Balgobin assisted in the resetting of our hydroponic system, ensuring it remains functional for future use. She observed our club’s operations, shared valuable insights on tool safety, and encouraged us with useful advice to improve our practices.
Her commitment to supporting youth in agriculture didn’t stop there—she has promised to return with soil for our garden, a watering can for our crops, and root vegetables such as sweet potatoes to further enhance our farming projects.
We are incredibly grateful for her generosity and guidance and we look forward to continuing this collaboration as we grow together. Stay tuned for more updates from the HCC Champions of the Environment, 4-H Club!
