AgriFunCulture 4-H Camp Sparks Joy, Creativity, and Environmental Awareness in St. George East!

From July 21st to 23rd, the St. George East County came alive with the vibrant energy of twenty enthusiastic young 4-Hers at the AgriFunCulture 4-H Camp, held under the thoughtful guidance of County Coordinator Mrs. Ria Balgobin, with tremendous support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries (MALF) office at Wallerfield. And what a camp it was!
This three-day adventure was not just about fun—it was an unforgettable mix of agriculture, creativity, environmental care, and friendship, all wrapped up in the spirit of 4-H.
The campers dove headfirst into agri-learning as they explored the buzzing world of bees and their habitats, gaining a new appreciation for these tiny but mighty pollinators. They rolled up their sleeves to plant their lettuce seedlings in rich, manured soil and proudly planted a five-finger tree, which many promised to return and visit next year—now that’s a green thumb legacy in the making!
The creative sparks flew during the craft sessions! Campers got their hands into styrofoam-decorated planters, concrete planters made from recycled materials, and colourful decorative hand bands, showcasing the creative power of 4-H. These projects not only brought out their artistic flair but also promoted sustainability and reuse.

In a tasty twist, the young participants learned the value of food preservation by making pickled cucumbers, understanding the importance of using surplus produce before spoilage—a simple, smart, and delicious lesson in reducing waste!

But above all, the camp was about connection and joy. The children spent meaningful time with old friends, made new friendships, and grew together through shared experiences. Their smiles, laughter, and the wish for a longer camp next year speak volumes.
From planting trees to pickling cucumbers, this AgriFunCulture Camp was a shining example of what it means to “make the best better.” Hats off to Mrs. Balgobin and the MALF Wallerfield team for making it all possible.
Way to go 4-H! The future is bright, green, and full of growth. 🌿🌞🐝
