Small Feet, Big Strides: 4-HTT 5K Makes a Powerful Comeback at the Savannah

The energy was unmistakable from the moment the sun rose over the Queen’s Park Savannah—the long-awaited 4-HTT 5K had finally arrived, and it was well worth the wait.

Originally scheduled for November 2025 but postponed due to unforeseen challenges, the event made a triumphant return this morning, powered by determination, teamwork, and community spirit. After a quick, lively warm-up session led by the ever-enthusiastic Mr. Wade, 337 runners surged across the start line, each one eager to conquer the course and give their personal best.

From the very beginning, it was clear this was no ordinary race. Representing all eight counties of Trinidad, participants of all ages laced up with one goal in mind—to finish strong. And while many may think 5Ks are reserved for seasoned adult runners, today’s event proved otherwise. The 4-Hers, especially those aged 12 and under, brought unmatched energy to the course, dominating with speed, determination, and grace.

One of the most heartwarming moments of the morning came from the youngest participant—a spirited three-year-old who, with her father close by, tackled the race like a true champion, drawing cheers and admiration from spectators and fellow runners alike.

In the adult category, Donnel Francis powered his way to victory in the male division, while April Francis claimed top honours in the female category. Among the younger competitors, Omarion Merez was the first male under 12 to cross the finish line, while Everly Depoosingh led the female division.

This inaugural 5K event marked a significant milestone for the 4-H Trinidad and Tobago family. Its success is a testament to the tireless efforts of 4-HTT voluntary leaders and the dedicated team from Extra Mile Events Limited, whose coordination ensured a smooth and memorable experience for all involved.

Gratitude also extends to the many sponsors and supporters who made the event possible, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, the World Food Day Committee, the Ministry of Health, KFC, BrandSource, Agricultural Development Bank, Persad’s, Brydens, and Nestlé, among others.

More than just a race, the 4-HTT 5K was a celebration of unity, wellness, and purpose. Every step taken reinforced a powerful message: building healthy bodies, minds, and communities starts with small, consistent actions. As the cheers faded and medals were proudly worn, one thing became clear—this event has laid a strong foundation for the future.

With such an inspiring debut, the public can eagerly anticipate an even bigger and better 4-HTT 5K next year.
